Exeger acquires key component developer Intivation BV to strengthen ecosystem around patented solar cell technology Powerfoyle®.
Exeger (www.exeger.com), the Swedish industrial company that produces their patented solar cell technology Powerfoyle®, announces the acquisition of Intivation BV, a boost converter designer specialized in low power applications. The acquisition will secure a key component ensuring optimal system output and strengthening the ecosystem around Powerfoyle, allowing it to provide more power to devices.
Intivation BV is a fabless Dutch electronics developer and design company providing DC-DC boost converters for low power applications. The boost converter matches the solar cell voltage to the battery’s charging voltage. Together with Exeger, Intivation has optimized the boost to be perfectly paired with Powerfoyle with a custom tracking algorithm. Exeger can now expand R&D to encompass the optimization of both Powerfoyle and the boost converter as a single system, increasing the total power to the battery. For the manufacturing of its chipset, Intivation partners with semiconductor manufacturer EM Microelectronic, a Swatch Group company.
The acquisition means Intivation BV becomes a fully owned subsidiary of Exeger Operations AB and ensures that one of the key electronic components in the solar cell charging system is of high quality and fully optimized for Powerfoyle. As a result, customers are now provided with the highest standard electronics package, offering the most efficient output to the battery from Powerfoyle.
Throughout 2021, Exeger teamed up with several key partners to form a strong ecosystem around Powerfoyle, providing a superior experience for end-users and facilitating integration and adoption for customers. The partnerships that have been announced so far include: Qualcomm – to provide a ready-made solution with a power-efficient Bluetooth chipset paired with Powerfoyle for use in wireless headphones; OSM Group – to support customers with the design, development production, and seamless integration of Powerfoyle; and Mayht – to create a new standard platform for brands in the speaker industry.
Anne Osinga, CEO & founder of Intivation, explains “Powerfoyle makes seamless integration of solar cells possible for the very first time. Users can have a truly wireless experience of consumer electronics with clean endless energy without any constraints to design; it simply works. Intivation’s technology ensures the constant optimal output of Powerfoyle for the highest possible charge current, and that’s why the combination of these two technologies is so promising.
Giovanni Fili, CEO & Founder of Exeger, explains “Sustainability in the twenty-first century needs to center around an ecosystem mindset. We have set out to partner with the companies that improve our core technology the most and Exeger’s ownership of Intivation is a natural development of our longstanding relationship.”
Giovanni Fili continues, “It will ensure Exeger can offer the most suitable power solution to all our customers, to know there will be a key component which is solely optimized for Powerfoyle and always available for purchase. When the opportunity arose, we all felt this partnership was poised to help accelerate the mass adoption of Powerfoyle and touch the lives of a billion people by 2030.”
Exeger is a Swedish company with a unique solar cell technology that converts all forms of light into electrical energy. With its resilient and flexible design, the material named Powerfoyle can be seamlessly integrated into all products that benefit from being self-powered. Powerfoyle can enhance any consumer electronic product it is integrated into with extended or even eternal battery life, putting the power of cutting-edge solar technology directly into the hands of consumers. By revolutionizing the perception of available energy, Exeger makes products both smarter and more sustainable – with the vision to touch the everyday lives of billions of people.
Intivation is a semiconductor company founded in 2003, based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. They develop and market the highly innovative, proprietary SunBoost technology that increases the power output of solar cells making a solar powered device that works. Intivation partners with some of the world’s leading ODMs, and has broad experience integrating solar power solutions in portable consumer electronics.
